OUR IMPACT

1 IN 2 CANADIANS WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME

Humankind is facing a massive surge in cancer diagnoses, unlike anything we’ve seen before. Cancer is the second leading cause of death internationally, replacing infectious diseases worldwide as the top killer. In Canada, it’s expected the number of cancer diagnoses will double by 2035.

At The Princess Margaret, we feel a sense of urgency to accelerate the pace of discovery now. We are one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. With your support, we can stack the odds in our favour against cancer.

CANCER AFFECTS US ALL

YOU CAN HAVE A LASTING IMPACT

KATHLEEN MITCHELL

FORMER SPIN PARTICIPANT

“In 2016, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma - breast cancer. As shocking and upsetting as it was, I felt a sense of relief knowing that I would be in the hands of world experts. I was referred to the breast clinic at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre which is one of the largest, most comprehensive of its kind here in Canada. Today I am cancer free.

I spin because it was instrumental in my recovery. After surgery and treatment there were a lot of restrictions on what I could and couldn’t do and spinning was one thing that made me feel whole again. Events like these are so important to support cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Given how ancillary spinning was in my recovery there was just no way I couldn’t support the hospital that helped save my life.“

ASHLEIGH DUNGAN

FORMER YOGA PARTICIPANT

“Cancer has affected me deeply. My father was a patient at The Princess Margaret for over eight years and unfortunately lost his heroic battle at the end of 2019. He was involved in multiple clinical trials, so my family have personally seen the importance of where the money is going. Yoga continues to be a huge part of my life and has been a coping mechanism for me. It has many benefits for your mind and body, so whether someone is a beginner or not, it’s about getting everyone together for a great cause. Cancer has affected us deeply, so participating in an event like this is really important to us and will hopefully make a lasting effect in the future.”
